The Gulf Oil Mess Page

OYSTERS

Oysters have been available for a couple of months now and the prices have come down nicely.

The shell oysters are a bit small but are tender and juicy.

They come from Texas and were not affected by the oil in the Gulf.

The shucked oysters are also from Texas and they are nice size for frying, stew, soup or eating right out of the container.

They are tender, plump and juicy, according to my boyfriend Larry who eats them raw.

Current prices ( subject to change with the market)

Shell oysters by the dozen  $ 5.99

Shell oysters by the 30 pound box   $ 45.00

Shucked oysters by the half pint (8 ounces)  $ 4.99

If you would like a box of shell oysters to go with your seafood cookout for the weekend, please order by 1 pm on Tuesdays for Friday/ Saturday pick up.

SHRIMP

We continue to lean on the Lone Star state of Texas for our premium shrimp out of the Gulf of Mexico, as prices in MS and LA are just too darn high right now.

Prices are holding steady as of now, but may go up a bit if gasoline keeps going up.

Your best buy is by the 5 pound box, which will save you a dollar per pound off the regular price.

Just defrost under cold running water for 20 minutes and you have premium shrimp ready to cook.

Floyds has never and will never carry farm raised shrimp from 3rd world countries.

If it doesn't come out of the Gulf of Mexico and out of salt water, it doesnt come thru MY door. Period.

What's Going On On the Gulf Coast Update

Boyfriend Larry and I went to Biloxi in February for a little relaxation time after the holiday season ( He works for FedEx Freight  in Little Rock) and before I have to work my rump off during crawfish season.

We checked in with our friend Gus Harris, owner of the Cajun Crawfish Hut Restaurant in Long Beach, MS and found Gus busy building a new place!

Hurricane Katrina totally destroyed his business on Beach Boulevard but he has rebuilt and should be open by now.

If you are down there, stop in and eat with Gus and Dona in their new place and check out the new expanded menu.

Check them out on the web at www.cajuncrawfishhut.com or call them at 228 863 5588.  Just look for the beautiful blue building, you can't miss it!

Tell them Larry and Lisa sent you from Arkansas!!!

We found the beaches in great shape- clean, white, not a tar ball in site!

The folks in Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis, Long Beach, Biloxi and Gulfport want you to come on down, eat, play, gamble, shop, sightsee and swim.

The beaches are open and the water is fine!
